Medium 4WD tracks require a capable vehicle with good low-range gearing, reasonable ground clearance, and a driver who is comfortable with slow-speed technical driving. You are likely to encounter steeper gradients, rougher surface, and deeper crossings than on Easy tracks — and the consequences of a mistake are higher.
Most medium tracks are achievable in a well-maintained standard 4WD like a Prado, Patrol, HiLux or Ranger with all-terrain tyres. Lockers are not required for Medium, but a rear locker is useful in wet conditions or on loose sidehills. A winch starts to become worth considering on the harder end of Medium terrain.
