The landscape shifts dramatically as you progress, revealing classic Flinders Ranges scenery with dramatic ridgelines and sparse vegetation characteristic of this semi-arid region. Despite the relatively modest 1% steep grade, the terrain's technical difficulty comes from rock-strewn sections and unforgiving ground conditions that'll keep you focused for the entire 3+ hour journey. You'll want a properly equipped 4WD with good ground clearance and recovery gear—this isn't a trail for highway vehicles or casual weekend warriors.
