Easy 4WD tracks are suitable for most capable high-clearance 4WD vehicles driven by someone who knows how to use low range. You do not need lockers, a winch, or significant modifications — but you do need a vehicle with decent ground clearance, proper low-range gearing, and all-terrain tyres.

Easy tracks are often the best choice for first-time 4WD drivers, families with younger children, and anyone running a standard but capable vehicle like a Prado, Patrol, HiLux, or Ranger with a lift and decent rubber. That said, "easy" is a rating of terrain difficulty — not remoteness or risk. You can still be a long way from mobile coverage on an Easy-rated track.

What to expect on an Easy 4WD track

• Well-defined dirt or gravel surface with occasional rough sections
• Mild gradients — generally not exceeding 20%
• Water crossings are usually shallow (under 300 mm) or absent
• Most standard high-clearance 4WDs can complete the route without recovery assistance
• May cross farmland or state forest — stay on the marked route

Minimum vehicle requirements for Easy tracks

A capable high-clearance 4WD with low-range gearing, good all-terrain tyres in sound condition, and a full-size spare. No locker is required. Recovery gear (snatch strap, shackles, traction boards) is strongly recommended regardless of the rating — conditions change.

Tips for driving Easy tracks

• Engage low-range before you need it, not after you're already stuck
• Reduce tyre pressure to 25–28 psi on loose surfaces; re-inflate before returning to highway
• Check track status before you go — rainfall can turn an Easy track into a Medium overnight
