4WD Trails in Victoria

The Victorian High Country is the most iconic 4WD destination in Australia. Billy Goat Bluff Track, Blue Rag Range, Mount Skene, and the Wonnangatta Valley are the names every driver knows — and they live up to the legend.

Beyond the High Country, Victoria offers the Otway Ranges along the Great Ocean Road, the Big Desert and Sunset Country in the north-west, and the Grampians sandstone tracks. Each region has its own character and permit framework.

Most High Country tracks close annually from the Queen’s Birthday weekend in June to Melbourne Cup Day in early November under the Parks Victoria seasonal closure schedule. Always check current closures before departure. Lockers, recovery gear, and a full-size spare are recommended above the snow line.
