4WD Tracks in Molesworth

Molesworth Station is New Zealand's largest farm — 180,000 hectares of high-country Marlborough and Canterbury tussock managed by the NZFSA. The through-route from Hanmer Springs to Blenheim via the Awatere Valley (roughly 180 km unsealed) is one of the most spectacular 4WD journeys in NZ.

The route is seasonal: typically open from late November through April, weather and track condition permitting. DOC posts current status and manages public access through the station — the road crosses the Crown pastoral lease. River crossings at the Jollies Pass area, the Awatere River sections, and the Severn River can rise after rain. No phone coverage for most of the route.
